Essure® Birth Control Device
Essure® birth control is a non surgical permanent contraceptive device. The device is very popular among women looking to avoid the complications of invasive surgery. The device is constructed of flexible metal coils that are inserted into the fallopian tubes. There are also polyester fibers inside of the coils, which create inflammation intended to prevent sperm from passing through, preventing conception of a child. Unfortunately, the Essure® device has been linked to very serious side effects and complications that may require corrective surgery or a total hysterectomy.
These complications can lead to serious injuries and even death. Several members of Congress have urged the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to ban the Essure® birth control device because, as they state, the risks outweigh the benefits.
The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has received over 5,000 formal complaints about the Essure® Contraceptive Device. The complaints have come from women who were injured by the Essure® device, and several deaths have also been reported. The FDA Reports that four adults and five fetus’ have died as a result of the Essure® device. All of the fetus deaths involved pregnancies that the Essure® device was intended to prevent.
